Ever wondered what a blogger’s workspace looks like?
If “clothes everywhere” was your first thought, you’re right on the money. But there is so much more to
making a great space for creative work such as mine, so here’s the lowdown.
Where is it?
Sydney, NSW, Australia.
What is it?
A satisfyingly large warehouse space bathed in natural light, with rustic white brick walls and sleek polished
grey concrete floors. Ideal for that perfect flat-lay.
How is it?
To me, it’s the ideal office for what I do. I am lucky enough to share the space with my very good friends
at The Undone who have an equally minimal and relaxed approach to style and interiors, making them
the perfect workmates. Out of say ten clothing racks in the office I might get my hands on one for my own
organisational purposes, but that’s in exchange for being able to rifle through the rest and play around with
whatever pieces catch my eye at the time. It’s like a revolving wardrobe and is therefore just wonderful.
The collaborative aspect of working with fellow creatives is also an essential factor in maintaining the
inspiration and motivation in my work. We bounce ideas around, celebrate milestones and achievements,
lament the difficulties in our respective jobs and ultimately laugh at any ridiculous things (or people)
we have to deal with while doing them.
What’s the dress code?
We like to keep it all very relaxed when it comes to attire in the office, with sneakers being the dominant
footwear by far in the day-to-day. My personal focus will always be on comfort but with a relative sleekness,
as you never know when you might have to step out to a meeting or showing or the like so you need to look
somewhat presentable if you can. The key will always be practicality though – hours of editing imagery and
answering emails is not made any easier by overly tight or cumbersome clothing, after all.
What do you do there?
Work, my friends. My job does involve a good amount of creative energy: photographing content, editing
imagery, creating mood-boards, brainstorming editorial ideas and general creative direction for content on
both my own site and for other brands. On the flip side though there is the more grinding aspect of your
standard business: invoicing, accounting, sourcing samples, sorting samples, returning samples (phew)
and emails, emails, emails. So. Many. Emails. Plus the practical side of meetings, showings and general
events, but I try to keep them to a minimum if I can.
It should be said that this is clearly a curated view of what my workspace and work-life really looks like.
What you don’t see is the discarded boxes and packaging from either gifting or source material, spare
make-up for shoots, wet wipes for removing said make-up from shoot samples and the hours of editing
and emailing and many late nights therein, particularly when you’re working with an international client.
In short, it’s not at all a glamorous life and a rather equally unglamorous job, but if you’re in fashion you’d
already know that. Wouldn’t change it for the world, though.
